West High Bio Club's first meeting will be September 19th during AFT in room 12.
Here at Biology Club, we want to improve our communities by educating the next generation of STEM-educated citizens and leaders. Promoting biology education initiatives is our main goal: whether that's through preparing for competitions or organizing compost bins.
You'll find a place for everyone at Biology Club. From compost to olympiad, it's rare for someone to not find an activity for themselves. Below are descriptions of each of our branches.
Looking for a brain-stretching exercise? Competitive biology might be the activity for you! Biology Olympiad is a solo event where one person studies starting in September/October for the national USA Biology Olympiad exam in March. Science Bowl is a team event made up of people educated in various science subjects that study for the regional competition in February. To learn more about each, check out this page for information on Olympiad and this page for information on Science Bowl.
Interested in giving back to the environment on a large scale? Consider supporting our composting initiative! Our composting program has received over $1000 in funding from grants and the City of Iowa City. As part of this branch, you'll work on educating our community on how to properly compost and work on making composting accessible to West High students. Click here to learn more about composting.
Like colorful fliers but not codon charts? Our marketing branch might be just for you. On this team, you'll work on increasing member count and retention, promoting Biology Club across West High and telling people what our mission is: to expand biology, one cell at a time. Contact Endrit Ramku about joining this branch.
