West High Bio Club's first meeting will be September 19th during AFT in room 12.
At Biology Club, we know that to improve our community we must come up with innovative ways to bring biology to our peers. This is why members of our club are highly encouraged to perform research or organize projects that promote innovation.
From May-August 2025, West High Biology President Endrit Ramku developed curricula for a free-to-the-public Summer AP Biology Preparatory Course. Endrit created hundreds of slides with built in practice and assessments. A group of 5-10 enrolled students from across the Iowa City Community School District met at the Iowa City Public Library to go over the content they would expect in AP Biology.Â
West High Biology alum Sadie Frisvold received the 2022 Witinok Endowed Advancing Science Education Award, which included an $800 grant to implement a composting program at West High School. Additionally in 2023, West High Biology received a $500 Youth Climate Action Grant from the Iowa City government for additional materials needed to kickstart the program.
Club members proudly volunteer at Best of West, a student-led peer tutoring organization at West High School founded in 2023. Best of West offers academic tutoring during the school day. Subjects covered range from introductory to college-level mathematics, science, and language arts.
